Public adventures
Let anyone with the link view your plan and join transport without an account.
Normally, people have to sign in before they can see anything on an adventure. Turning on Public view lets anyone with the link see the plan straight away — no account, no sign-up — and even sort out lifts.
It's ideal when you're sharing a plan with a big or loose group (a club, a WhatsApp community) and most people just need to see what's happening.
Turning public view on or off
- Open the adventure overview.
- In the Public view / Who can join? card (only the organiser sees it), flip the Public view switch.
It takes effect immediately. Your adventure link stays the same.
What visitors without an account can see
| Visible to anyone with the link | Needs an account (and membership) |
|---|---|
| Adventure details, cover photo and dates | Meal ingredients and the shopping list |
| Who's going — names and RSVP status (never email addresses) | The map and GPX routes |
| The trip brief and useful links | Personal packing lists |
| The discussion (read-only) | Posting in the discussion |
| Itinerary, meals, transport, gear, tasks and costs (read-only) | Editing anything |
| Downloading the trip pack PDF | RSVPing |
Sections you've switched off stay hidden from visitors too.
Transport without an account
On a public adventure, visitors can use Transport without signing up:
- They're asked once for their name and phone number, so drivers know who's who. This is remembered on their device for 7 days; Change lets them update it.
- They can add their car (and become its driver), join a car as a passenger, or leave one.
- Drivers can edit their own car and remove passengers from it.
Joining a public adventure
Visitors see a panel inviting them to join. What it offers depends on Who can join?:
- Anyone with the link — Join the Adventure takes them to sign in or create an account, then adds them.
- Ask to join — they sign in, then send you a request to approve.
- Invite only — they can look, but only people you invite by email can join.
Public view and Who can join?
They're independent: public view controls seeing, Who can join controls membership. A popular combination for clubs is Public view on + Ask to join — everyone can see the plan and offer lifts, but you decide who's actually on the trip.
Is my adventure listed anywhere?
No. "Public" only means the link works without signing in. Public adventures aren't listed, searchable or shown to anyone who doesn't have the link.
