Roles & permissions
Exactly what organisers, attendees, invitees and emergency contacts can do.
What you can do on an adventure depends on two things: your role (organiser, attendee or emergency contact) and, for attendees, your RSVP.
The short version:
- The organiser (shown as owner) can do everything.
- Attendees who are Going can plan — add and edit itinerary, meals, transport, gear, tasks and costs.
- Everyone else who's a member — Invited, Maybe, Can't Go and emergency contacts — can see everything and join the discussion, but can't change the plan.
- People who aren't members can see nothing, unless the adventure is public.

A few finer points:
- Gear: only the person a group gear item is assigned to can tick it off as confirmed.
- Personal packing lists are private — nobody else, including the organiser, can see yours.
- Discussion: you can delete your own messages; nobody can delete someone else's.
- Transport on public adventures: visitors without an account can add a car, join or leave a car, and manage their own car. See Public adventures.
The organiser
The person who creates an adventure is its organiser. There's one per adventure, and it can't currently be transferred to someone else. The organiser is always treated as Going.
If you're organising with a co-leader, ask them to RSVP Going — they'll be able to edit almost everything in the plan. Only the settings and member management in the table above stay with you.
Becoming a member
You become a member of an adventure when:
- the organiser invites you by email, or
- you open the adventure link while signed in and the adventure lets you join (see Controlling who can join), or
- the organiser approves your request to join.
New members start as Invited. Set your RSVP to start planning — see RSVPing.
